Hello Friends!
As you may know I’m in Austin, Texas through the end of March. I have no idea what I’m doing after that so feel free to hit me up so we can plan my next move! Remember…I’m chasing 70 degrees.
I have managed to plan some pretty rad stuff while I’m in Austin and I want to invite you to it. I’ve also got some online things I want to invite you to and just some general updates.
New Website
First off, I launched a new website this past fall (and forgot to email you about it).
Here it is! www.BadassCrossStitch.com
It is chock full of free tutorials, patterns, street art downloads, art for sale, updates, thoughts, and EVENTS. Boom!
Upcoming Zoom Stuff
I host several Embroidery 101 workshops each month via Zoom. They are all pay-what-you-can and VERY FUN. I will teach you everything you need to know to become a stitching genius in 1.5 hours. They all live on my events page. There’s a few spots left for this Saturday 1/30 and February dates are the 6th and 20th. Learn how to stab it until you feel better.
Every Sunday, I host a social stitch-up where folks from around the world gather to work on their projects and get to know each other. We share tips, tricks, ideas, and basically become best friends.
Thanks to a grant from the Center for Craft, I host a monthly Craftivism 101 workshop with the Museum of Design Atlanta via Zoom for FREE. Each month is focused on a new cause/topic. These fill up fast. You can register for the Feb, March, April, or May workshops right now on my site.
Upcoming IRL Stuff
I am taking over Something Cool Studios in Austin, Texas for the next 3 weeks with over 200 pieces of art! NBD.
The opening is this Friday night (1/29) from 5-8pm and viewing will be Thursdays and Fridays from Noon - 7pm and some Saturday hours through 2/19.
Remember what it feels like to go see art on walls?! Come see my art on walls!
Masks are obviously required. Front entrance, rear exit situation. The number of people in the gallery will be very limited but there is an expansive outdoor space for social distance chatting after viewing.
I will also be hosting two very small outdoor embroidery workshops in their yard. February 4th and February 13th. You can register here.
Rita’s Quilt is on display at the Neill Cochran House Museum through the end of March! I have done some fun events with them already and we are planning more so be sure to check the calendar.
Their crazy quilts collection is on display through February 7th and I highly recommend seeing both!
Other updates
How fun has Make Don’t Break been?! We have over 5,000 people making their way through January and I just think that’s amazing. If you have missed any of the prompts all of the emails live here for you.
I have some limited edition art prints for sale if you are in the market.
I’ve been hard at work with the Fuller Craft Museum building the country’s first Craftivist-In-Residence program! We will be recruiting applicants this spring and the position will run September 2021 - August 2022. If you want to support - a donation to the Fuller with the note: CIR program will go to supporting this exciting new initiative!
I’m also in the early stages (and close to being able to announce) two additional institutions that will be working with me on their own Craftivist-In-Residence programs. National cohort of Craftivists coming right up!
I think that’s enough for now but I sure hope we get to hang out (IRL or via Zoom) soon!
Here’s some fun photos of my last few weeks in Austin starting with my very lazy assistant…
