As you may know, I spent the past few months in Winston-Salem, NC. I met amazing humans and quickly teamed up with the wonderful women of Village Fabric Shop. They hosted a stitch-up and then we decided we should do a community project.
Winston-Salem is welcoming new Afghan community members and we wanted to do something to help support their transition. So, we partnered up with CWS Greensboro which is the organization supporting their resettlement and learned that good old fashioned cashola was the first pressing need to ensure the new community members have what they need in their new lives in the US.
We brought together 19 local artists and everyone stitched a quilt block around the theme of “welcome”. We brought in the Community Coordinator from CWS Greensboro to share more about the resettlement process and the ways that we could support moving forward. We stitched and connected and it was really joyful.
The blocks were pieced together by the team at Village Fabrics and then Carrie Hauser of Lovebug Longarming did the quilting.
This quilt is STUNNING and heirloom quality.
We are auction off the quilt and biding opens at 10:00am EST on November 13th. Bidding starts at $400 and closes November 21st at 7:00PM EST. The amount raised will go to CWS Greensboro and directly support those resettling into the area from Afghanistan.
The winner will get the opportunity to significantly support these folks and at the same time walk away with a stunning piece of art that 21 artists invested in.
