Hello My Friends!
I’m not good at email updates. I want to be. I’m just not. I get overwhelmed with all of the things I want to share with you, the amount of time it takes to write them, the understanding that getting long emails isn’t super welcome, and you know…distractions.
I think I’m going to launch a Patreon community on my birthday this year. That way, I can keep everything in one place, and honestly, have a safer space to share more than on social media. I get so many death threats it gets harder and harder to feel safe sharing things there.
Anyway! Enough of that. I’m going to give you a few fun updates and we’ll sort all that out soon.
WHERE IN THE WORLD IS SHANNON?
I AM IN OREGON NOW
This is what my drive in looked like (gulp). I’m really getting good at driving this big ass RV.
I will be in PORTLAND this weekend with two events planned.
Saturday night - a low key stitch-up and Rita’s Quilt viewing at the 1122 Gallery from 6-8pm.
Sunday from 11am - 3pm with Portland Textile Month at Laurelhurst Park. Bring your stitching or just supplies and I’ll teach you how. Weather permitting Rita’s Quilt will be on display. Register here.
After that I’m headed to the Seattle area for a bit. I’ll keep you posted on events. If you have ideas or want to collab let me know!
CRAFTIVISM TALKS
I’ve teamed up with Mindy Tsonas Choi of the Be Seen Project and we are hosting quarterly panels about Craftivism.
The first was presented by the Fuller Craft Museum and the panelists dove into their definitions of Craftivism. You can watch the full panel here.
The next panel will be held on June 10th and will be presented by the Modern Quilt Guild. Registration will open up soon.
NEW RADICAL SKILL SHARE INITIATIVE
I’ve heard so many folks who want so badly to do more but who feel like they need more skills and support. I’ve got you. I launched a new radical skill share series. All trainings and workshops are free or pay-what-you-can.
In March and April, we hosted 4 free bystander intervention trainings with the amazing team at Asian Americans Advancing Justice | Chicago. We supported over 500 people in learning effective methods of intervening in moments where they witness violence.
This week, Omkari Williams will present - Activism 101 for Introverts and Highly Sensitive People. The workshop filled up it’s 100 spots in 24 hours!
Other upcoming workshops will include: how to prevent a drug overdose, how to talk to your children about drugs (not the Nancy Regan approach), how to unionize your workplace, how to start a mutual aid group, and more! I’m working with amazing experts to bring these to you.
I’m also working on some badges so we can make fancy sashes (of course).
Also, huge shout out to artist and designer Michelle Woods for making us this sweet logo!
LIMITED EDITION GICLEE ART PRINTS
In case you haven’t heard. I’ve got three different limited edition signed, dated, and numbered giclee art prints for sale. And they are super hot if I do say so myself. I really love seeing my favorite pieces as art prints!
You can buy them on my website here.
Ok that’s all I’m going to say for now so as not to be too lengthy. I hope you are healthy and thriving and I hope I get to share space with you soon.
xo
